The study indicates that businesses in particular need to look again at their defences to determine whether their information is indeed well protected.
Information Security - The People Factor
Two recent surveys reinforce the fact that when it comes to security breaches people remain the weakest link. In one survey more than two-thirds of public sector workers who cannot send or receive emails larger than 10Mb in size admit to trying to get round the problem by sending a file using personal email accounts, file-sharing websites or unsecured USB storage devices. In a second survey more than half of Europeans admit that they would access a network insecurely whilst working remotely.
Social media – the next cybercrime target?
According to the McAfee 2011 Threat Predictions Report, social media will eventually replace email as the primary method for distributing malicious code and links. The threat landscape is evolving with the rapidity that organisations are adopting more immediate methods of communication such as instant messaging and social media and information security needs to display the same agility to keep pace with the speed of this change.
